At Our Lady Catholic Primary School we want the children to understand how special and unique they each are and how they and others have been formed in the likeness of God. Through our Religious Education and Personal and Social schemes of work we promote positive well-being, self-esteem, self-value and self-image. At the centre we focus on respect for the dignity of each person in God’s world. 

To enhance and supplement this work, we deliver a relationships and sex education programme (RSE) that prepares the children at each stage of their development for the world of the future and their adult life. We aim to deliver the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding they will need to live safe, happy and fulfilled lives, and enable them to establish lasting positive relationships with other human beings. 

Nationally, the Department for Education made changes to relationships and sex education following nationwide consultation which came into effect from September 2020 and all schools were required to comply with the updated requirements. The statutory guidance can be found at:

The guidance focuses on a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, personal wellbeing, safeguarding, and healthy relationships. Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up gives children an opportunity to take responsibility for their own well-being and the choices they make, as well as helping them to understand and have tolerance for the viewpoints of others. At Our Lady School we deliver these requirements through a whole school RSE programme from the ‘TenTen’ materials ‘Life to the Full’ which has been fully endorsed by the Catholic Education Service as appropriate for Catholic Schools.
