Prayer and Liturgy
Prayer at School
At our school, prayer is a cherished part of our daily routine. Each day, we say four school prayers together - morning, lunchtime, afternoon and at the end-of-day. As well as our daily prayers, we also have a school prayer which was lovingly written by the children. These prayers offer moments of calm and connection. Whether in assembly, classroom, or quiet reflection, our daily prayers help nurture a sense of belonging and spiritual growth in every child.
Our Lady Prayer and Liturgy Policy
We also follow the prayer progression of common prayers as outlined in our prayer and liturgy policy. Each Key Stage has its own prayer booklets to support children with the prayers.
Year 3 and Year 4 prayer booklet
Year 5 and Year 6 prayer bookletChildren are given opportunities to engage in different types of prayer and to lead prayer as part of whole-school collective worship and in-class Wednesday Worship. Every classroom has a focal point for prayer, which is appropriate to the liturgical season.
Prayer at home
At OLS, we strive to provide children with a range of experiences and opportunities with prayer and worship. We share links to the Mark 10 Mission with our parents each week following on from our Gospel assemblies in school, giving parents an opportunity to revisit and reflect on the Gospel message at home. On Friday’s each class gives a prayer bag to one child. They are filled with resources to support them with setting up a prayer focal point at home and encouraged to have a chance to use it to pray and reflect. Inside the bags is a prayer journal where thoughts or prayers can be written and then shared with their classes at school the following week.
Liturgical Year
The liturgical calendar plays a vital role in shaping the rhythm of prayer life at Our Lady’s. Feast days and other special events are observed by the entire school community, with leaders thoughtfully planning the school’s liturgical calendar to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in school Masses, which take place both in school and at our parish church. Parents are always warmly welcomed to join in these sacred moments. Our Annual Plan of Provision document gives an overview of these planned events.
